The M47 Patton II was classified as a medium tank (although it weighed some 46 tons!).
This big baby, recently acquired by Christian Dours, is going to start a rejuvenating treatment over the coming weeks of July 2017. The enthusiasts and professionals of the A.C.VE.MI. are going to restore the Amreican tank to its original configuration.
Historically, this tank was designed to replace the legendary M4 Sherman, judged not robust enough in the face of the enemy forces. M47 production totalled 8,576 tanks from 1951 to 1953. Used primarily by NATO, it was soon replaced by the M48 Patton III.
